Year 8 Reading week: War horse

.War Horse by Michael Morpurgo

The Year 8 students thoroughly enjoyed reading Michael Morpurgo's War Horse as their Reading Week text. The book follows the experiences of Joey, a service horse used during World War I, and the attempts of his previous owner, Albert, to bring him home to safety.

The students absolutely loved Michael Morpurgo and are even discussing reading some more of his books in the next few weeks.

What did the Year 8s get up to?

The students took part in some fantastic activities, including designing their own staging of a key scene in the novel, writing a lockdown poem, and an independent research task learning about animals in warfare.

From Page to Stage

The National Theatre's stage adaptation of War Horse in London has been one of the most successful productions ever, watched by over 8 million people. The students were therefore tasked with the challenge of designing the set for one key scene in the novel, and we think they did a fantastic job.
