The Year 9 ESA Football Team travelled to The Hayes, facing Bishop Challoner in the Birmingham Schools' Cup Final. The team did brilliantly to reach this stage, and competed hard on what was a scorching hot day. Challoner were the winners and we would like to congratulate them on their achievement.

The Man of the Match was Omar G. who showed a fantastic range of passing, creating numerous opportunities for the team.

The Year 9 Football Team were the winners of their league this season, which is an amazing feat:

Football - Year 9 vs Year 10

On Wednesday 19th of July, the Year 9 Football Team faced the Year 10 Football Team in a In-House Game. Captains of the teams organised their squad with the PE Department officiating the game.

The Year 10 team ran out 5-0 winners against Year 9. The game was played in great spirits and was thoroughly enjoyed by the students, and the staff who came out to support. Captains Alemi and Adeeb did really well to organise their teams, overseeing kit, formations and substitutions.

Year 8 Cricket

Mr Preece's Year 8 Cricket team travelled to Starbank School to take part in a league fixture. The boys competed really well, with Starbank possessing a couple of experienced club players. Ali U. batted and bowled to a very high level and was the Player of the Match on the night. Ali is currently playing Under 15 Club Cricket upon recommendation to a local club.

The Year 8 Cricket Team also travelled to the University of Birmingham on Monday as they continued their league campaign. Mr Preece was delighted with the attitude of the players and their perseverance throughout. LBS unfortunately came away on the end of a narrow defeat after some excellent bowling by the opposition.

Year 10 Cricket

Mr Preece took his Year 10 team to Coventry to face Bablake School for a Quarter Final fixture. The boys were outstanding as Bablake are an established school with regards to Cricket. LBS lost by 15 runs in the end after a spirited display. The students returned to school around 7:00 P.M. showing their commitment to their Sport and to the school.

The Year 10 Cricket team hosted Hamstead Hall as both sides competed in the Birmingham League. LBS looked favourites to win after a good innings of bowling, however, inconsistent decision making meant that we just fell short of the required run rate and lost by three runs.

Player of the Match was Shaban I. who showed technical competence in all aspects of the game.

Year 9 &10 Cricket

A mixture of Year 9 and 10 students were taken to Windsor High School for a Cricket fixture. In what was a very competitive game, LBS secured 92 runs but unfortunately lost by four wickets. Player of the Match was given to Mikail K. who bowled superbly, who bowled four overs and produced figures of 1-17.

LBS In-House Cricket

The LBS PE Department hosted their annual In-House Cricket Tournament that takes place during Cricket lessons. The winners of the Year 8 title this year were the Northern Super Chargers after battling hard throughout the four week showdown.

Students enjoyed developing their technical aspects of the sport and then applying these skills in the competitive game-based situations.

County Championships - Edgbaston

On Wednesday 19th July, Mr Preece and Miss O'Shaughnessy took a group of students to watch Warwickshire v Lancashire at the Edgbaston Stadium. This was another great opportunity for students to experience a professional game and to observe the technical and tactical elements of the game.

softball

Ten Year 7 players and two Year 9 helpers went to Edgbaston for a Chance to Shine Softball Tournament. The students had the privilege of playing on the grass at Edgbaston; the same venue that hosted the Ashes just 2 weeks ago.

After winning our first 3 games very comfortably, we faced Washwood Heath Academy in the final game, who had also won their first 3 games, it was winner takes all.

Batting first we posted a very respectable 71 off our 40 balls, 24 of which coming from the first 10, thanks to Ali U. launching several balls into the stands. It was our chance to showcase our bowling and fielding skills. The standout performers with the ball, Manraaj, Ali, Yusuf and Abubakr. All bowling good line and length, but the ball kept disappearing over the rope 4 or 6.

However, with several wickets from Ali and Abubakr meant that Washwood Heath only lead by 3 runs going into the final over, a wicket meaning -5 runs. Manraaj bowled a wide delivery down the leg side which enticed the batter to swing, the batter edged it and Phil Baldy took an incredible one-handed catch to seal the victory.

A massive well done to all the players and the 2 Year 9 helpers, received a special mention for their scoring and umpiring.

Primary provision

LBS hosted Summerfield Primary School as 52 Year 5 students participated in Sport and Music Workshops. The students had a great morning with us and we were delighted to support their future transition into secondary education.

Our student ambassadors were an absolute pleasure as they supported the delivery of the sessions.

basketball champions

The Year 10 Basketball team were also winners of their league this season. A big congratulations to the students for their hard work.
