literacy highlights

Students at LBS have been excelling throughout the school, and making fantastic progress as well as enjoying their literacy experience. Thank you to Ms Russell for keeping us updated on the amazing work that students have been completing this half term.

Oracy

It has been amazing to see the focus on oracy this half term, with students showing confidence when presenting in lessons, working towards their character development goals through literacy.

Students are encouraged to use disciplinary literacy and "Speak like a... " throughout the curriculum.

Production Rehearsals

Where better to showcase our oracy skills than on the stage! It is amazing to see students bringing The Lion King to life already, learning lines and developing characters all while highlighting how important literacy is in everything we do.

Thank you to Mrs Davis-Musabayana, Mrs McKeon and Mrs Lowndes-Ford for all their hard work with rehearsals so far!

150 Challenge

Students have been working hard in the library, enjoying their reading and earning badges in the 150 challenge.

A special congratulations to Harvi (Y8), Usman (Y9) and Terrell (Y9) who have earned their Diamond (30 books), Quartz (40 books) and Topaz (50 books) badges!

Literacy Time

During literacy time, students can utilise their time to keep reading and completing book reviews - lets see even more students rise to the challenge!

It has been great to see all students completing spellings and making progress learning new vocabulary and developing their literacy.

Thank you to all the literacy tutors for making this such a core part of their weekly routines. It is wonderful to celebrate the impact that this is having, with every single literacy group improved their scores in HT1!

Students are also able to add 10 books of their own choice to the 150 badge from any reading level. Here are some of our EAL Y8 Colts wearing their hard earned badges with pride.

Student Librarians

And finally, maintaining the library is a tricky job for our Junior Librarians.

Thank you to all the students who have given their time during Library Lessons and at lunch to ensure the library is kept in a good condition.

New Covers

We have been looking at how we can bring some of our older books back to life this week as some of them were in need of new covers!

Thanks to the creativity of 9.5 the books are back looking great. Look out for these special editions in the library, and thank you to Ms George.

Flash Academy

Our EAL students have been working hard on Flash Academy. We are seeing huge progress in the engagement of students with the Flash Academy Programme.

A big congratulations to these students for being top of the leader board!

These are some of the topics and lesson that students have been working on during this half term.
