Winter Reading

Winter is the perfect time to get cosy, grab a cup of hot chocolate and relax in front of a pleasant fireplace. This year's winter reading list has been selected by our Year 10 Students Journalists during their Enrichment, and should keep you occupied during the long winter evenings.

The Polar Express is a story full of adventure following a young hero that embarks on an extraordinary train that’s headed towards the North Pole on the day of Christmas Eve.

Snow Falling on Cedars is set in 1954 about a murder trial in San pietro Island in Strait of Juan de Fuca basked on Kabuo Miyamoto a Japanese American is framed of killing a known fisherman in the area and is put on trial. The book is a gripping and tragic.

The story deals with a father who takes his child owling for the first time on a cold winter night. Along their way, they encounter a great horned owl. While the first-person text does not specify the child's gender, the jacket flap copy refers to the characters as "a little girl and her father". This book is great for EAL students.

The novel is beautifully crafted and profoundly moving. It is infused with hope, celebrating humanity in the midst of uncertainty.
