Parent Bulletins
Dear Parents/Carers,
Today is Autistic Pride Day.
The aim of this day is to raise awareness amongst those who are not on the Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) so people are able to see those with ASD as unique individuals and not those requiring treatment.
As a part of our LBS 150 reading challenge, pupils are encouraged to read texts that allow them to understand the perspectives of those different to themselves. This provides our students with a broader knowledge of society, other cultures and allows them to leave school as well-rounded individuals who can empathise and relate to those who have different experiences from themselves.
Here are some of our top picks for understanding new perspectives:
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
The Autobiography of Malcolm X
by Alex Haley and Malcolm X
The Diary of a Young Girl
by Anne Frank
Girl, Woman, Other
by Bernardine Evaristo
Refugee Boy
by Benjamin Zephaniah
Please do ask your son what he is reading and continue to encourage him to read 20 minutes a day outside of school.
Kind regards, The Literacy Team.
