literacy highlights

27th September 2021

Reading and writing are fundamental skills that we practise every day, but sitting alongside this is a key skill: oracy. It is just remarkable to watch and listen to our students at events such as we had on Thursday with Open Evening. The students confidently performed, they took part in science and described and explained, they solved crimes, they articulated and most importantly they had so much fun. Every area of the school was just stunning! Thank you everyone for your hard work in showcasing the school.

It is great to have our EAL literacy group receive specialised provision to support their reading, writing, oracy and understanding with Ms George. They also now have access to Kindles, too, which I am sure is going to be a fantastic resource with thousands of appropriate books for them to access.

It is also marvellous to have the arrival of our selection of newspapers and periodicals that students can access in the refectory and their literacy rooms. Please continue to encourage the students to read, read, read!

Please continue to encourage students to read their LBS 150 library books. It is excellent to see students reflect on their reading and complete their detailed, more improved book reviews, as they earn their badges and rewards. Just great!

We continue to support, encourage and empower all our students. Let's not forget...all students must record their reading age and their literacy targets in their planner and take ownership of their literacy journey.

Thank you for your support, Mrs Kang.
