literacy highlights

11th May 2022

Literacy is prismatic. It’s got many definitions, it’s part of connection, and not only to community, but to ourselves. It’s fundamental in growth, human development, and human interaction.

I can not emphasise enough how important it is that students are constantly reminded and encouraged to read. It is absolutely wonderful to see students during Literacy time focused on reading. It is critically important that as Literacy Time has been placed at the start of the day, we immediately have students take out their reading books and read. Please also ONLY select ONE day for spellings and planner completion.

ACTION:

Please ensure three things are on the desk (reading book, planner, pencil case).

Follow the allocated days:

Monday: Pastoral Care - discuss attendance, check uniform, equipment etc

Tuesday: Spelling Day (if in assembly then spelling day becomes Wednesday)

Wed/Thurs/Fri: Silent reading/Supported reading Days

We now have Lexia intervention for all our students that require further support to close the gap between their RAGE vs CAGE.

The Literacy Managers, Ms Baker and Ms Russell will be completing this intervention with the students during Literacy Time. The Parent Forum and the student assembly has taken place and we must all continue to encourage the students with this work, it is important for their development.

It is absolutely marvellous to see so many students brought together to prepare for their Junior Maths Challenge. Thank you Ms Savani for your passion and for challenging these students. We look forward to hearing about their achievements.

Finally, please take a few moments to read the article here and reflect.

Thank you for your support, Mrs Kang.
