Wake up Wednesday & Skips Safety
Online Safety #wakeupwednesday
We believe all parents, carers, teachers and trusted adults should be empowered with the all the information needed to have informed and age-appropriate conversations about online safety with children. That’s why, every Wednesday, there is an update from #wakeupwednesday - an easy to follow guide which focus on specific risks we think you need to be aware of. You can follow these updates by clicking this link.
In addition, Skips have produced a useful 'Keeping children safe online' document that you can see below. The QR code in the centre of the poster will take you to the Skips website which contains a significant amount of information to support you in keeping your children safe online.

Personal Development & Character Education
I am sure that your son/s have been talking to you about our Personal Development and Character Education programme (PDCE) this week. You will remember me discussing this topic in my blog on 23 June, which you can read again by clicking here, and the significant developments to our curriculum relating to PDCE.
Our three main virtues that students are directed to focus on throughout the year are:
Leadership
Belief
Self-discipline
Each virtue has two sub-virtues which are focused on each half-term. They are:
Respect & Integrity
Compassion & Resilience
Perseverance & Confidence
I am sure your son will have explained that his subject teachers and support staff have been linking our half-termly virtue, 'RESPECT', into all lessons and assemblies this week.
I am keen to know and hear how your discussions at home have developed around this virtue and where you son has demonstrated his deeper understanding of being respectful to others and himself.
During a PE lesson, Year 9 students were challenged with interpreting the virtue of 'RESPECT' within a Fitness environment. Students articulated the need to respect School equipment and facilities. A very nice articulation was made by Darishay who explained the need to respect your peers' boundaries and the various Fitness levels within the group. Darishay further explained that empathy and understanding should be shown to peers who may not feel as comfortable as others in this type of environment.
Sport fixtures and training schedules for week beginning 11 September 2023
Weekly sports round-up from Mr Janes, Director of Sport
Year 10 v Staff Football Match
On the last day of term before the Summer break, the Year 10 students faced our Staff Football team in a much anticipated fixture. The game turned out to be a great spectacle, made even better by the atmosphere created by the spectating students. The Staff were victorious with a 2-1 win, Mr Mitchell scored twice with Alemi setting up a tense finish by grabbing a late consolation goal.
Sports Day
The LBS 2022-2023 Sports Day proved to be another huge success as the students competed for their respective Colleges across a variety of events. In the Field events, we had the Long Jump, Triple Jump and the Cricket Ball Throw. On the track, we had the 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M and Relay. The competing students were fantastic in terms of their attitude, resilience and dedication. Thank you to Mr Deeks for organising the event and to all of the staff for their support in their various roles on the day. We look forward to the next one!

THE REFECTORY
I would like to draw your attention to the current menus that are available to your son/s in school this year. As you are aware, we operate a cashless system at Lordswood Boys' School, meaning that your son/s will not be able to use cash to purchase food from the Refectory. This means it is important that parents/carers have pre-loaded your son/s iPay-Impact account for him to buy food and drink in school.
In addition to using iPay-Impact to top-up your son/s account, from Monday 18 September your son will be able to top-up his account in school using one of the newly installed 'Reval' machines. The reval machine allows your son to bring cash into school and deposit the cash into his account, thereby, topping it up.
The menus below are also located on our website at the following location: Refectory Menus.
I hope you have a good weekend and I look forward to updating you with more news next week. Until then you can always contact me directly at: l.williams@lordswoodboys.co.uk
