HAPPY NEW YEAR

Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well and enjoyed the holidays.

As you can imagine, this week has been very busy with the start of the new term. As always, student attitudes have been of the highest order and lessons have started with great focus and positivity.

It was a delight to welcome Year 11 parents into school on Thursday evening for the second parents evening of the year and even more delightful to listen to the conversations taking place surrounding student progress and the journey towards their GCSE exams.

Any parents/carers that were unable to attend will be contacted to arrange a meeting to discuss your son's progress.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES

As you are aware, our weekly Enrichment sessions run every Friday. This term, the Enrichment session will take place during period 1 rather than period 5 and your son's Literacy Tutor will ensure which session he has each week.

Today saw the start of a new set of activities and as you can see from the pictures below, students have taken full advantage of the sessions. It was a pleasure to walk around the school to see all of the different activities taking place.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITY

As we continue to develop the wider Arts across the school, from next Tuesday (10th January) we will be introducing a weekly Dance Club.

Some students have already taken part in two Dance workshops last Summer and during the Autumn term.

The club will be led by an external professional dance Instructor Jack Wallace, and will take place weekly after school from 3.10 - 4.00pm.

If your son is interested in joining the activity please ask him to see Mrs Lowndes-Ford in the music department as soon as possible as places are limited.

Please be aware that if your son does sign up, he is committing to attending weekly as he will work towards as series of performances.

This is a FREE extra-curricular opportunity.

Weekly round-up - Sport Provision at LBS

FROM MR DEEKS:

Students from the Year 7 and 8 Basketball team represented Lordswood Boys' at a 3 v 3 tournament, hosted by Worcester University on Thursday this week. This was a great experience for the students who were playing this new format for the first time.

Overall the Year 7 team finished 3rd in their league, with a record of W 3, D 1, L 3.

The Year 8 team finished 5th, with a record of W 4, L4.

Denzel Fernando was the outstanding performer for the Year 7 team and Leo Wallace had a very good tournament for the Year 8 team.

Congratulations to all of the students involved.

FROM MR BRADSHAW:

It was brilliant to speak with Adeeb Haroon, Year 9, as he shared some great news yesterday.

He has been selected as one of the players who will represent the West Midlands County Football Team. Omar Gansei Year 9 is on the Players Stand By List.

Again, a great achievement for these boys' and a huge congratulations to them both.

I look forward to keep you updated with their progress.

ATTENDANCE UPDATES

As we move into next week, I would like to remind parents/carers that it is important that your son attends school every day and is punctual in his arrival to school.

The information below shows our attendance for last term and how it compares to the current National and Regional averages. We are pleased to see our attendance rate is above the current averages but we would like to see this improve further this half-term. Our Heads of Year will be speaking with parents/carers where concerns emerge regarding poor attendance and punctuality.

I look forward to updating you with more news next week. Until then you can always contact me directly at: l.williams@lordswoodboys.co.uk
