Coronation weekend

Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.

As I am sure you will be aware, the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will take place over a weekend of special events on 6–8 May.

The Coronation is centred around a solemn religious ceremony and has remained largely unchanged for over a thousand years. For the last 900 years, the ceremony has taken place at Westminster Abbey, London and is conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Many people across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth will turn their attention towards these events over the coming days, as for many, this event will only occur once in a lifetime. You may be planning on being involved or know someone that is traveling to London to witness the occasion. If so, please do let us know.

There have been a number of opportunities for students to be involved with activities during Literacy Time and lessons today that have focussed on the Coronation and the history of the event. At lunch time students were able to enjoy our traditional fish and chips/ coronation chicken burgers and King Charles cupcakes.

You may want to explore more details about the events and the history behind this poignient moment with your son over the weekend. You can do this by clicking here to see more details and watch the Newsround report below.

As previously mentioned, Monday 8 May is a bank holiday, therefore, students are not expected in school. School will reopen on Tuesday 9 May at the normal time.

BBC Bitesize

Parents/Carers of Y10 and Y11 students will be interested to take a look at and explore the updated BBC Bitesize revision resources and the newly introduced Podcast materials that have recently been published.

The podcasts are a great way for students to listen to relevant content whilst traveling to school etc. With the Y11 GCSE exams starting in less than two weeks and the Y10 end of year exams taking place between 19 - 30 June, families can support independent study routines with resources like these in addition to the materials shared by the teachers at LBS.

Both platforms can be accessed using the links below.

Year 7 Parents' Evening

I would like to remind parents/Carers of year 7 students that the next parents' evening will be held in school on Thursday 18 May. Your son/s will be speaking with his Foundation Studies teacher and other members of staff to arrange appointment times during the next 2 weeks. To support this event, I would like to encourage all year 7 parents to be available to join us and speak with your son's teachers about the progress he is making in school.

Should you need to contact the school regarding anything associated with this event, please note the following details of the key staff:

Ms Sandhu - Assistant Principal, k.sandhu@lordswoodboys.co.uk

Ms Bedesha - Lead Professional of Foundation Studies, j.bedesha@lordswoodboys.co.uk

Mr Oswald - Head of Year (Y7), c.oswald@lordswoodboys.co.uk

We look forward to seeing you on the 18 May.

Sport fixtures and training schedules for week beginning 8 May 2023

Weekly sports round-up from Mr Janes, Director of Sport

The Year 11 GCSE PE students took part in their Practical Moderation on Thursday at the University of Birmingham. The students competed really well as they showcased their talent, competing and working with other students.

The Fitness Club continues to develop as the students participate in the LBS Strength & Conditioning programme. Students tailor their workouts around their specific sports as well as their general health. Students that are interested in knowing more and getting involved should contact or come and speak to me about this.

We look forward to promoting the Year 9 v Year 10 In-House Football Fixture over the next couple of weeks. The Year 10's were victorious the last time around and the Year 9's will be looking to amend that result.

The Cricket and Softball seasons will commence over the next few weeks and further details will be sent out to students in terms of fixtures and competitions.

If you have any questions relating to the details above, please use the contact details below:
