end of term

Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.

It's pleasing to say that the weather did not stop our college event today and I know that Mr King and Mr Bradshaw will be keen to share the outcome from the competition when we return after the Easter break.

As students leave school today to start their holiday, I would like to remind parents/carers that we return to school on Monday 17 April at the usual time of 8.35am. Next half-term is a crucial one for our year 11 students as they start their final GCSE exams. Furthermore, next half-term has two bank holidays - the first, May Day, which as normal is on the first Monday in May. This year, that will be Monday 1 May. The second bank holiday is the following week, Monday 8 May which is an extra bank holiday for King Charles III's coronation. School will be closed on both days.

In addition to the above, we also have the year 7 parents' evening on Thursday 18 May. Further details regarding this will be shared when we return after the Easter break.

Humanities Highlights

Y8 have been studying festivals this half-term, and one student asked if he could share with the class what Easter means to him as a practising Christian. He went away and prepared an introduction to Easter and even planned an Easter egg hunt activity, testing students' knowledge of what they had learnt about Easter. Superb leadership skills displayed and a highly engaging activity for the class.

Year 7 Science Fair Project

Year 7 students turned their attention to the Science Fair project during half-term 4. It is inspirational to see the students taking part in independent study and working  in teams on their science projects. I am sure you will agree that it is heart-warming to see students working collaboratively and solving problems. There are some lovely quotes from the students below:

Abubakr Touseef

"It was fun and enjoyable working in a group"

"We shared the cost for resources and everyone researched thoroughly before constructing the volcano"

"We hoped for the best when it was time to demonstrate!"

Chibuoyim Onuzulu

"I found it interesting and it was no problem to bring the old tv into school on the bus"

"I enjoyed presenting and sharing my knowledge"

It is wonderful to hear both students say: "Everyone should try out the investigations/experiments at home."

Science Fair entrants - Year 7

2. Oscar Andrezejewski

Sport fixtures and training schedules for week beginning 17 April 2023

Weekly sports round-up from Mr Janes, Director of Sport

This week saw our first Rugby Fixtures of the year. Year 7 and 8 played on Monday, with Year 9 and 10 competing on Tuesday. Both games were played in good spirit, the students developed their game understanding and were all fantastic. Thank you to Mr Deeks for organising these games, it is great to see the school competing in Football, Cricket, Basketball and Rugby.

Football and Basketball fixtures will resume after the Easter break, the league season is coming to a close and we have numerous teams in the hunt for silverware.

Music News

Our Year 11 Music Technology students have been working hard to ensure that all their coursework has been completed by attending daily intervention sessions.

Well done to students for completing this and thank you for your hard work leading up to the final exams.

Extra - Curricular Provision after Easter

Please note that a brand new extra-curricular timetable will be shared after the holidays. There may be some changes to the rehearsal days and the introduction to some exciting new clubs including a new Rap club open to all year groups and a DJ / Music Production course which is funded by an Autistic charity.

Thank you to Jamie in Year 9 for leading two melodica club sessions on Friday morning for our year 7 students. His attitude and leadership was first class and I look forward to seeing how the group progresses during the summer term.

I hope you have a good Easter break and I look forward to updating you with more news when we return after Easter. Until then you can always contact me directly at: l.williams@lordswoodboys.co.uk
