Embracing Democracy at LBS 🗳️

As we embark on another exciting week at LBS, I wanted to take a moment to highlight an incredibly important event that will be taking place – our very own LBS General Election!🏫 This initiative is not just about casting votes; it’s about understanding democracy, engaging in thoughtful discussions, and experiencing the electoral process first hand.

Starting Monday, we will dive into the heart of democracy. During Literacy Time in the morning, students will watch a special video featuring our talented students reading out party policies.📽️🎤  This is a fantastic opportunity for  students to listen carefully, consider the different perspectives presented, and decide which policy resonates most with them.

Here’s what students will take part in:

The anticipation is building as we look forward to seeing which policy will win the hearts and minds of our LBS students. The winner will be announced later in the week, adding an extra layer of excitement to this already thrilling process.🏆

This week is particularly significant for politics as the General Election is taking place on Thursday, 4th July. It’s a timely reminder of the importance of having your say and being an active participant in the democratic process.🗓️

We will be reminding students, their vote is their voice. We would like you to take this opportunity to discuss elections with your son at home and we will also ask him to engage, reflect, and contribute to our school community.🗣️

I am incredibly proud of all the students who have worked hard to prepare their policies and present them to the students.

I am looking forward to this being a memorable week for everyone at LBS!🙌

Exciting News from Last Week's Raffle! ⚽️🎉

With the European Championship taking place, we're thrilled to share some exciting news! Our wonderful catering company, Coombs, generously donated an England shirt for a special student raffle to celebrate as part of the tournament, which started on June 14th and finishes on July 14th.

On the 20th June, students eagerly participated in the raffle during lunchtime for a chance to win this fantastic prize.

Drumroll, please... 🥁 The winning number was 95! 🎟️

A lovely year 8 student was our lucky recipient of the raffle prize! As part of the Euros celebrations, students enjoyed participating in the draw and indulging in delicious themed food from our canteen. We can't wait to see him wearing his shirt with pride! 🏆

Let's keep the excitement going as we cheer on our teams and celebrate the spirit of the game!

STEM Fun Continues at Lordswood Boys' School! 🧪✨

We’ve had an exciting few weeks in our STEM sessions, and the fun just keeps growing! 🌟

First, we kicked things off with some mesmerizing lava lamps, the boys loved seeing the colourful blobs dance around in their bottles. Then, we moved on to creating delightful bath bombs that fizzed and popped, bringing chemistry to life in such a fun way. 🛁💥

For our third session, held on Monday 24th June, we dove into the gooey, stretchy world of slime! Here's a peek into our slimy adventure:

We gathered all our ingredients: PVA glue, food coloring, borax, body lotion, and essential oils. The boys had a fantastic time mixing, stirring, and experimenting with different colors and scents, as you can see from the attached pictures. (Apologies to the cleaners for any mess we made! 🙈🧹)

Slime-Making Fun: Step-by-Step 🧪

The boys had an absolute blast, and it was wonderful to see their creativity and excitement. We’re looking forward to even more fun and learning in our upcoming STEM sessions.

Year 9 Students Develop Life Skills Through Baking Activity 🍰

This term, our Year 9 students are focusing on developing essential skills for life after school. They are exploring various career options, learning about financial literacy, and understanding the importance of life skills for future success.

As part of this exploration, they recently participated in a group baking activity. The students worked collaboratively to plan, prepare, and bake a chosen recipe. Their confidence and excellent teamwork were evident throughout the activity.

A big thank you to Mrs. Ali for supporting and providing this wonderful opportunity. Your guidance and encouragement made this experience truly memorable.

Congratulations to our Year 9 students for their impressive efforts and delicious results!

NOS Updates - 28 June 2024

The National Online Safety programme publishes a weekly #WakeUpWednesday update for parents/carers. This weeks update relates to 'Promoting Physical Well-being'.

Football’s European Championship is now well underway, and this huge event could potentially get children interested in having a go on the pitch themselves – or perhaps they’re already passionate about sport. It could present a great opportunity to get young people engaged in physical activity and regular exercise, which has proven positive impacts on all facets of their health – including mental and emotional wellbeing.

With all that said, it can sometimes be difficult to get children and young people motivated to take part in sports and other exercise, but there are certainly ways to do so. This guide provides you with some top tips from our expert on how to encourage young people to stay active and remain invested in their physical welfare.

I hope this information is helpful.
