TIPPING THE TREND

Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.

I trust that the families who celebrated Eid last Friday had a good day and enjoyed the celebrations. It has been wonderful to speak with students about their celebrations and listening to one or two of them talk about how they enjoyed the company of family and friends. Similarly, it has been excellent to listen to and watch students from the Chicago Bears deliver such a powerful message regarding world-wide humanitarian work in our assemblies this week.

Four students delivered a deep and meaningful presentation about the British Red Cross. They presented information about the origins of the British Red Cross and how Colonel Robert Loyd-Lindsay, a war veteran who had witnessed the suffering of soldiers in the Crimean War, believed that Britain should provide neutral aid to sick and wounded soldiers on both sides. The presentation encouraged many students in the audience to participate and was delivered with great confidence and clarity. Congratulations to the students involved.

Sport fixtures and training schedules for week beginning 28 April 2023

Weekly sports round-up from Mr Janes, Director of Sport

As the Football season comes to a close, the students have been working hard this week as they continue to train and refine their skills. The Year 7 team have one final game next week which will then conclude their season.

It was great to see so many boys at our Cricket provision on Wednesday at Warwickshire County Cricket Club. The boys receive a high quality provision from the Warwickshire Coaches and are able to use the outstanding facilities.

The Year 9 ESA Cricket team will participate in the Birmingham Indoor Cricket Finals on the 22nd of May after winning their respective league. The event will be held at Edgbaston Indoor County Cricket Ground. This is a great opportunity for the students, replicating the success of last year's Year 10 team.

Our Talented Athlete Programme commences this week with the selected students participating in a seminar to review their current sporting pathway, setting targets for future ambitions and most importantly, discussing the process of how to reach their targets.

Please ensure you follow the LBS Sport Twitter page for all sporting updates.

Music schedules for week beginning 28 April 2023

Weekly music round-up from Mrs Lowndes-Ford, Director of Music

Practice Rooms

A reminder that students are able to book practice rooms before school and at some lunchtimes. Please encourage your son to book a room and ensure his name is written down by the Music Ambassador who is on duty. Students will then gain a visit point towards their LBS Music 250 badges.

Students should leave the rooms tidy before they leave the room.

Please also note that students have to remain in the room for a minimum of 15 minutes to gain a visit point.

It was a joy to see so many students making use of their own time in school using the practice room spaces this week.

Melodica Club

A huge thank you to Jamie for running the weekly melodica club.

Students in this group are working towards summer performances.

Music Lesson Payments

Please remember to make any music lesson payments by the 8th of each month. Please put your payments into a sealed envelope labelled with your son's name, literacy group, instrument they are learning and the payment amount. Thank you in advance for this.

Following the email sent to parents earlier this week, you will be aware that we will remain fully open to ALL students on the next teacher strike day, Tuesday 2 May. Therefore it is essential that students arrive at school on time as normal.

I hope you have a good weekend and I look forward to updating you with more news next week. Until then you can always contact me directly at: l.williams@lordswoodboys.co.uk
