Character education launch!
Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.
As you will know, many student's are visiting either Drayton Manor Theme Park or Alton Towers Theme Park today - both trips and all student's have arrived in good time and as I sit here at Drayton Manor writing this weeks blog, it is fair to say the boys are having an awesome time.
You will remember me mentioning that Lordswood Boys' School is launching a new Character Education Programme from September 2023 and that we will be introducing and launching the programme to students before the end of term. Well...this week was the launch week and I'm delighted to say that it has been a superb week. Mrs Sandhu, Assistant Principal and Character Education lead explains more below. I would like to thank Mrs Sandhu and all of the staff at LBS for making this launch week so very memorable.
From Mrs Sandhu, Assistant Principal and Character Education lead
What a week... and to finish the week with a day out at the theme park tops it off!
We certainly jam packed in an array of eclectic activities - something for everybody this week:
Art projects included PRIDE logos, creating a montage of silhouettes to celebrate National Refugee Week and bunting to represent our different heritages/ cultures.
It was hit and miss with the weather on Tuesday and Thursday, but even a few thunderstorms and drizzle could not defeat the LBS spirit, especially when it came to sporting activities such as kickball, softball, dodgeball or capture the flag.
With Y10 sitting their end of year examinations this week, we felt like a bit of yoga and breathing exercises were due to relax their minds and bodies...
Whilst Y8 exercised their minds with mental maths for a very competitive game of countdown.
Straight out of another examination, Y10 learned basic first aid, such as how to bandage a cut, the different ways to support a broken arm in a sling and most importantly, CPR.
Finally, Y9 enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and learnt how to erect tents and how to cook on trangias for their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme next year...
A huge thank you to every single member of staff who supported this Character Education launch week. Students have created lasting memories, which they will never forget.
We hope parents/Carers have enjoyed listening to your son/s telling you all about the activities and we look forward to sharing more next term. For now, take a look through the pictures from the week below.
Year 10 Exams
It has been a busy week for year 10 students as they have started their end of year exams. Students have been totally committed to doing the very best they can and have demonstrated an unwavering focus throughout the week. A day out today comes as welcome break ahead of starting the second week of exams on Monday. I'd like to wish you all the very best ahead of the final exams next week and encourage you all to continue demonstrating the excellent attitudes on display this week.
Parents/carers, please continue to support, encourage and direct your son/s to the revision guides that his teachers have provided.
Sport fixtures and training schedules for week beginning 26 June 2023
Weekly sports round-up from Mr Janes, Director of Sport
Year 8 Cricket
Mr Preece's Year 8 Cricket team travelled to Starbank School on Wednesday evening in a league fixture. The boys competed really well, with Starbank possessing a couple of experienced club players. Ali Usman batted and bowled to a very high level and was the Player of the Match on the night. Ali is currently playing Under 15 Club Cricket after My Preece recommended a local club.
Year 10 Cricket
Mr Preece's Year 10 Cricket team hosted Hamstead Hall on Thursday as both sides competed in the Birmingham League. LBS looked favourites to win after a good innings of bowling, however, inconsistent decision making meant that we just fell short of the required run rate and lost by three runs. Player of the Match was Shaban Iqbal who showed technical competence in all aspects of the game.
Primary Provision
Last Friday, we hosted Summerfield Primary School as 52 Year 5 students participated in Sport and Music Workshops. The students had a great morning with us and we were delighted to support their future transition into secondary education. Our student ambassadors were an absolute pleasure as they supported the delivery of the sessions.

Music schedules for week beginning 26 June 2023
Finally, you will remember that two weeks ago I encouraged parents/carers to complete the 'School Day Times' consultation document. Thankyou for all of the responses and the helpful comments that you made.
I can confirm that the school day times for next academic year, from 1st September 2023 will be as follows:
School day starts - 8.30am
School day ends - 3.00pm
This change does mean that students will need to be in school at 8.30am to register. If they are late, a 1 hour detention will be issued for that day. Therefore, it is important that students arrive at school no later than 8.20am.
I hope you have a good weekend and I look forward to updating you with more news next week. Until then you can always contact me directly at: l.williams@lordswoodboys.co.uk
