OPEN EVENTS 2023

Welcome to my weekly blog - I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.

Depending on which year group your son is in, he will have a number of letters to show you this afternoon when he returns home. These are refenced below, but please check his bag!

OPEN EVENTS

We are looking forward to our Open Events next week. The Open Mornings and Open Evening provided a great opportunity for perspective parents/carers to see our great school in action and meet the brilliant students and staff. The events have been widely publicised and the adverts can be seen below. Any parents/carers that are aware of friends that may be considering Lordswood Boys' School for their son next year should feel free to share this blog post.

Parents/carers please note, due to the Open Evening on Thursday 28th September, school we finish early that day. Students will be dismissed at 2pm rather than 3pm and there will not be any after school clubs running.

If your son has been asked to support the evening please ensure he returns the reply slip on the letter he has been given. He will have the opportunity to have his tea (free of charge) in the Refectory before the event starts.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS

We had a fantastic day with the School Photographers yesterday. There are a few 'behind the scenes' pictures below.

One of the letters that your son will bring home tonight relates to the photographs that were taken in school yesterday. Importantly, you will be able to access and see the photograph of your son and have the option to buy the pictures via the Tempest website. The link below will take you to the website.

You will need to input the unique 10 digit reference number that can be found on the letter just underneath the small photograph of your son, shown opposite.

Y11 PARENT/CARER INFORMATION EVENT

Year 11 students have been handed a copy of the letter attached below today. Please ensure you have noted the details in the letter and complete the reply slip for your son to return on Tuesday 26th September.

We look forward to seeing Year 11 parents at this very important event.

Year 7 Football Trials

The first Year 7 Football Trial took place last night and it was great to see so many students attend. Mr Rauf will be managing the team this season, the team have entered two Cup Competitions, the League and a 7 a-side Tournament.

Cross Country Championships

Next Wednesday the 27th of September we will be taking a group of students across all year groups to the South Birmingham and Sandwell Schools Cross Country Championships. This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their talents and to compete at a very high level.

County Trialist

On Monday, our Year 10 Football Captain, Adeeb Haroon, competed at the final stage of the Under 15's West Midlands County Trial. Adeeb represented the County last year and was invited back this year for trials, we look forward to hearing the outcome of the trial. Whatever the outcome is, we are extremely proud of Adeeb and his commitment to Football.

Primary Provision

Next Thursday, we will be hosting a cluster of local Primary Schools as they compete in their Birmingham 7 a-side competition. We are extremely proud to provide our facilities to local Schools to support their sporting provisions and to provide local children with outstanding opportunities. The following Schools will visit us -

From Mr Deeks, Director of Learning - Sport, Creative & Performance Faculty

For their OAA unit of work, the Year 11 Sports Studies students have been learning how to climb on the indoor rock climbing wall. They have shown great progress in the 3 lessons they have had so far, as well as also displaying some of the character virtues. Respect, resilience and confidence, alongside teamwork can all be seen in the pictures below.

Furthermore, we’ve had excellent attendance to our morning gym clubs this week and this was optimised with Friday’s club where over 25 students were in attendance. Similarly, 12 students attended Mr Preece’s cricket club. Please continue to encourage your son to attend our extra-curricular activities.

Peripatetic Music Lessons

If you are having lessons weekly on an instrument, it is essential that you check the orange noticeboard directly outside of the music classroom G15. New Tuning In Project

We are delighted to have formed a partnership with Birmingham Academy of Contemporary Music. From next Friday 29th September, a group of 15 LBS students will be taking part in a three hour workshop with the ACM tutors and some of their own students to start creating a music composition.

Students will then take part in further workshops in October and November before visiting a professional recording studio in Birmingham to record their final music piece.

Look out for further updates about this following each session.

REFECTORY UPDATE

You will remember me saying that your son will be able to top up his dinner money account in school from the beginning of this week - and I'm pleased to say that the new machines are working well. You are still able to monitor your son's account via the iPayimpact portal even if he is adding money to his account in school. Do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions regarding this system.

Additionally, please see the two documents below. Firstly, the October theme day poster and the second is the caterers Halal certificate.
