Community spirit

Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.

Thank you to all year 7 and year 9 parents/carers who attended the events in school on Thursday afternoon this week. There was a real supportive community spirit in school. It was lovely to see so many of you and to have the opportunity to discuss details relating to your son's education at LBS.

Year 9 parents, please note that your son's options form will be sent to his school email address to be completed by Monday 5 June. We look forward to the continuing conversation about his option choices for September and ensuring that he starts his Key stage 4 courses well.

We are also looking forward welcoming our new year 7 students and parents into school on Saturday morning, 20 May. Thank you in advance if sour son is involved in this event as a member of the Junior Leadership Team.

Classcharts update

Parents/carers are aware that we use Classcharts as a platform to monitor student behaviour and attitudes in school and that parents are encouraged to access your account frequently to monitor your son's progress. You will also be aware that we often communicate with parents/carers via the 'Announcements' function on Classcharts to share messages that are specifically related to your son or the wider school community.

From 1 September 2023, the Classcharts 'Announcements' function will be our sole and main communication platform. This means that the text message and email service will cease to be used. Therefore, it is vitally important that you have access to Classcharts and have linked to your son's account. You can see how to do this by clicking here and reading through the guides that I sent out in my blog on 24 March 2023.

Those of you with access to Classcharts will note that the link for the blog this week has been sent via the 'Announcements' too.

College event #6 - dodgeball

As I mentioned in my blog last week, the dodgeball event was a huge success and I can confirm that Midland College won the event. This is now the 6th event that Midland College have won! You can see the score sheet and photographs from the event below. Well done to all students for taking part in the event.

Sport fixtures and training schedules for week beginning 22 May 2023

Weekly sports round-up from Mr Janes, Director of Sport

Mr Preece's Year 9 ESA Cricket Squad travelled to Arden School on Tuesday for a Hardball League Fixture. The Fixture was played at Knowle Cricket Club which was a fantastic experience for the boys. In a tight game, LBS lost by 4 runs in the end against a very strong Arden side.

We continued building our outstanding partnerships with our local Primary Schools by hosting a Primary Football Tournament on Thursday on the 4G Pitch. The Tournament saw the Schools battle head to head in their respective league campaigns.

Our Year 9 ESA Football Captain attended his West Midlands County Football Presentation this week. In the photo you can see him picking up his League Winners Medal and lifting the League Trophy after an undefeated campaign. The Physical Education Department are extremely proud of him, he has shown excellent commitment and a real tenacity in his Football journey.

Music schedules for week beginning 22 May 2023

Weekly music round-up from Mrs Lowndes-Ford, Director of Music

Music Clubs

Please check the extra - curricular timetable for weekly music clubs. Please note that the Vocal Group rehearses every Monday from 3-4pm. It would be great to see even more students attending this club.

New Club

As from next Friday 26th May, a brand new Year 7 and 8 drumming club will launch. This will take place during lunchtime. Students may eat their lunch first before attending the club which will start at 12.35pm.

If you would like to attend, all you need to do is simply turn up!

I look forward to seeing you there next week.

Celebration of Student Attendance to Clubs

Once again, it has been a joy over the past few weeks to see numerous students attending the music department to attend music clubs, use practice rooms or simply to visit and ask questions about activities.

Thank you to all of you for your loyalty and support. I really appreciate it.

Step Up Music Course

Our new DJing and Production course takes place every Thursday at 3-4pm. This is a club that we introduced at the start of this term for neuro - divergent students. The students have made excellent progress mastering the techniques of DJing and will soon be moving onto the next phase of the programme which focuses on production skills. It's wonderful to hear that two of our students have also opted to attend the additional external Saturday music making classes organised by B Music.

Thank you to Toni Grehan for organising these sessions for the students.

I hope you have a good weekend and I look forward to updating you with more news next week. Until then you can always contact me directly at: l.williams@lordswoodboys.co.uk
