Year 11 Mock Exams

Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well.

Next week sees the start of our first set of Year 11 Mock Exams. This is obviously a very important time of year for Year 11 students and their families, ensuring they have a robust and comprehensive revision schedule drafted to support studies through the mock exam period. We would like Year 11 parents/carers to encourage your son/s to follow these helpful tips over the next two weeks:

  • Work through your revision timetable that has been drafted during your Literacy Tutor sessions.

  • Make time to eat and drink well.

  • DON'T study until the early hours of the morning. Make sure you sleep well and get to bed at a reasonable time. We would always suggest that you get at least 7 hours sleep per night.

  • Eat a nutritional breakfast each morning. The school Refectory is open from 7.45am, therefore, why not arrange to meet your friends and eat breakfast together whilst working through your revision notes.

  • Be sure to bring a bottle of water to each exam. Staying hydrated during exams can increase success rates by 5%. Click here to see the study carried out regarding these findings.

  • Ask for help when you need it. Your teachers and the pastoral support team will be ready to help you whenever and however throughout the two weeks.

  • Be confident and believe that you can achieve anything when you put your mind to it. Click here to read how adopting a growth mind set during exams can dramatically improve success.

Year 11 students have been provided with a copy of the exam timetable. You can view a digital copy of it below too.

I wish all of the Year 11 students the best of luck and look forward to celebrating the results from these exams before we break up for the Christmas holiday.

Lost Property

There is currently a large amount of items gathering in the school lost property store. Many items are uniform related with a number of coats and jackets too. If your son has lost an item of clothing or uniform please encourage him to speak with his Head of Year or Literacy Tutor to arrange for the collection of lost items. We would like to encourage parents/carers to label items of clothing to ensure any lost items can be quickly identified and returned swiftly to their rightful owner.

World Cup 2022

With the Qatar World Cup starting on Sunday 20th November, we will be taking the appropriate opportunities to celebrate our cultural diversity throughout the entire tournament. This starts on Monday 21st November with England v Iran which kicks-off at 1pm. Students will be given the opportunity to watch the match with their Literacy tutors.

LBS Rewards Store

I am pleased to announce that our brand new Rewards Store has opened today.

The Rewards Store is accessed through your son's Classcharts account and from today he can start converting his positive behaviour points into prizes.

There are currently 23,035 positive behaviour points recorded across the whole school. That is an average of 47 points per student. What will your son spend his points on?

We now have 53% of students logged on to classcharts and eligible to shop! Please encourage your son to download the classcharts app (see the download links below) and access their account using the unique sign in codes that they received at the beginning of this half-term.

There have already been 33 orders placed since the store opened this morning, the earliest being made at 6.11am! What is even more delightful to see is that 70% of orders have been placed as charitable donations towards Children In Need. This is indicative of the compassion that students at LBS demonstrate on a daily basis inside and outside of school.
