Welcome to my weekly blog - I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.

It has been a bustling week at school, and today marked our first Personal Development and Character Education curriculum day of the year. I'll be sharing some of the noteworthy moments from today's events in my upcoming blog next week.

Building on the positive outcomes of our initial parent focus group meetings, where parents had the chance to hear about our plans for school development within a Multi-Academy Trust, I extend an invitation to all parents/carers to participate in a second series of focus group discussions centred around the growth strategy of the Central Academies Trust. The dates and times for these upcoming events are detailed below. Please ensure that you use the link below to register and book your place to attend either of the events, and please be aware that timings will be strictly followed.

Subsequent to these sessions, I will be writing to all parents in the final week of term to provide a summary of the discussions held during these meetings.

I strongly urge parents to attend if their schedules permit.

Meeting with Preet Gill (MP) and Warwickshire Cricket Club

On Monday morning, five of our brilliant students had the privilege of meeting with Preet Gill, the local MP for Edgbaston, Stuart Cain, the Chief Executive at Warwickshire Cricket Club, and Fidelis Navas, the Head of Community Engagement at Warwickshire.

The meeting proved to be highly informative as the discussion delved into various topics, exploring the challenges students face when participating in cricket, discussing their future ambitions, and exploring ways to maximise the use of the school's cricketing facilities.

Our students made a great impression with our guests, who were  impressed with the exceptional provision we offer students at LBS. We are optimistic that this initial meeting will pave the way for numerous opportunities, including the prospect of LBS students engaging in meaningful work experience at Warwickshire.

Worcester Cathedral Conference - From Ms Ali

The Year 11 Religious Studies cohort recently attended a GCSE conference at Worcester Cathedral. I want to express my immense pride in the exemplary behaviour of our students, who not only conducted themselves impeccably but also showcased the values of LBS throughout the day. Remarkably, our school stood out as one where every student actively participated in the Holy Communion, irrespective of their personal faith, demonstrating a commendable level of respect and deference.

The students engaged in various workshops and religious practices, gaining a wealth of knowledge and exposure from this valuable experience. I've included some photos below to capture the highlights of the day.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the trip, including parent/Carer support. Special appreciation goes to Mr Noble and Mr Sahota for driving us to the event.

NOS Updates - 17 November 2023

The National Online Safety programme publishes a weekly #wakeupwednesday update for parents/carers. This weeks update relates to 'THE DANGERS OF VAPING'.

You may be aware that on 12 October the UK Government launched a public consultation on creating a smoke free generation and tackling youth vaping. The consultation asks questions on the proposed actions that the UK Government will take to protect future generations from the harms of smoking. These proposed actions include restricting child-friendly flavours of vapes and bright colour packaging, a new law to stop children who turn 14 this year or younger from ever legally being sold cigarettes, and new powers for local authorities to issue fixed-penalty notices to enforce age-of-sale legislation of tobacco products and vapes.

The consultation is open to anyone, of any age, in the UK. We would like to take this opportunity to encourage parents/carers to submit a response to the consultation on behalf of their organisation, as well as encouraging your son to complete it to give his views.

The consultation period will be open until 11.59pm on Wednesday, 6 December 2023. You can answer the consultation questions and submit your views online here.

I hope your find this information useful.

Sport fixtures and training schedules for week beginning 20 November 2023

Weekly sports round-up from Mr Janes, Director of Sport

Year 11 Basketball National Fixture

The Year 11 Basketball squad marked their inaugural appearance in the National Cup last night as they welcomed Nunnery Wood from Worcester. In a highly charged match replete with skilful plays, it was the visiting team that asserted control during the initial exchanges, swiftly establishing a commanding lead. Despite this, LBS gradually found their rhythm, clawing back crucial points to exert pressure on Nunnery.

In a dramatic twist of events, the game was deadlocked in the 4th quarter. LBS had a golden opportunity to secure victory, but a missed pair of crucial free throws proved costly, allowing Nunnery to capitalise and secure two pivotal points. The visiting team ultimately emerged triumphant with a narrow 40-38 victory, and the contest stood out as a thrilling showcase of skill from both sides. Shamesh Williams was recognized as the Player of the Match.

Primary Tournament

Yesterday evening, we played host to six Primary Schools engaging in their local Football competition. It was a joy to witness over 60 players representing their respective schools. Given the seasonal conditions and the state of grass pitches, several games have been postponed until the New Year. We take pride in supporting our local feeder schools, ensuring the continuity of their Football programs.

Primary Engagement

In the coming week, we extend a warm welcome to Chad Vale Primary School, with their Year 5 students spending the morning at LBS. The students will actively participate in Sport and Dance Workshops, take a tour of the school, and enjoy breakfast on the premises. This serves as an excellent opportunity for these young learners to get a taste of secondary school life, facilitating a smoother transition when joining LBS.

Upcoming Fixtures

Basketball - Anticipate two National Fixtures next week, with Year 9 heading to St. Peters on Tuesday and Bromsgrove on Thursday.

Football - This Thursday, we are the proud hosts of the Year 9 Regional Football Tournament. Additionally, on Friday, Year 9 will be engaged in a Cup game right here at LBS.
