NEW OPPORTUNITIES & NEW EXPERIENCES

Now that we are back into the 'full-swing' of school life, I would like to share some of the things that have been happening in school and beyond this week.

It has been a joy to watch our students engaging with the new opportunities and experiences that this year is starting to bring. On Wednesday afternoon, the new Steel Pans club met for the first time. Due to our links with Birmingham Music Services, a dedicated Steel Pans teacher started the first weekly lesson with students at school. You can see some of the pictures from the extra-curricular session below and we look forward to sharing some video footage of this in the coming weeks.

In addition to the new experience above, it has been excellent to observe the students engaging with new curriculum areas in school this week.

Mr Tattam, Subject leader for Design & Technology, has been introducing all year groups to this re-established curriculum area and below you can see the Y10 students learning how to form Lap Joints.

Furthermore, Mrs Wossen-Henry, Subject Leader for French & Spanish, has spent the week introducing all students to these new language learning opportunities. We are incredibly excited to be able to offer the opportunity for students to learn 3 languages in school; French, German and Spanish. Mrs Woosen-Henry can be seen with the Year 7 students below.

The Year 9 and 11 Football Teams opened their season with West Midlands Cup Fixtures this week. Year 9 put in a good performance against a strong Summerhill side, eventually losing 4-2. Nathan Nagra picked up the Man of the Match Award with a solid defensive display. Year 11 travelled to St. Michael's in Sandwell, after a slow start, they pulled the game back with a battling display. St. Michael's won 3-2 with Lordswood having some very good opportunities at the end. Duc Truong delivered an outstanding performance at the heart of midfield. Year 7 and 8 began their Football Training this week with over 80 students attending training.

There was another new experience this week for Mr Deeks, Subject Leader for PE, when he ran the Great North Run. Mr Deeks completed the Great North Run (13.1miles) in 2hrs 16 minutes, and was raising money for the Great North Air Ambulance service, who have helped his family on two separate occasions, so it is a charity that is very close to his heart. In total he raised £1470. A great achievement.

If you haven't already done so, please subscribe and follow our school Youtube channel as we will be uploading 'shorts' every week and extended videos each half-term. This is a great way to keep up-to-date with what happens at Lordswood Boys' School. Click here to visit our channel and click the subscribe button.

Following the information in my blog last week, the official date of the State Funeral is the 19th September 2022. This day will be a bank holiday and settings that are normally closed on a bank holiday should close on this day as a mark of respect. This will include schools and colleges.

As always, please call us on 0121 464 2837, leaving a message if lines are busy, and we will support you.
