Attendance matters

Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.

Let me start this week by thanking you all for your continued support in making everyday at school count for your son. I know that you are completely aware of our expectations regarding attendance and we make no apology for having the highest expectations when it comes to students being in school, on time, every day.

Currently the national secondary school attendance figure sits at 90.5%, week ending 5 May. Furthermore, the West Midlands secondary school attendance figure is 90.3%. That means that almost 10% of students are recorded absent each week nationally, which, in an average size school with 1000 students, means roughly 100 students are absent each week. Shocking as this is, this is the current national trend.

You can see from the illustration below that Lordswood Boys' School 'tips' that trend, and our attendance this week sits a handsome 4.3% above the national average and 4.5% above the West Midlands average. Even more impressive is the year 9 attendance which is 6.1% above the national average.

With only two weeks remaining of this half-term, I would like to encourage all parents/carers and students to continue 'tipping' the national trend and be proud of our school's attendance.

We know that amazing attendance equals amazing outcomes, and amazing outcomes lead to greater opportunities for your son/s.

The end of year exams start for students in years 7 to 10 on Monday 12 June, that is just 4 school weeks away! Please make sure your son is in school everyday to ensure he has the very best chance to achieve his full potential and be proud of his amazing outcomes.

Year 11 gcse exams

I am sure you will join me and the staff at LBS in wishing the year 11 students the best of luck and success as they start their final GCSE exams on Monday 15 May. The first exam is Religious Studies and you can view the full exam timetable by clicking here.

End of year trip

I know many parents/carers have already signed, returned and paid the deposit or full payment for the end of year trip which is scheduled to take place on 23 June. If you have any questions or need to discuss anything relating to the trips day, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Sandhu, Assistant Principal, using the following email address - k.sandhu@lordswoodboys.co.uk
