NATIONAL CAREERS WEEK

Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.

Due to our unexpected school closure today my blog is being published a little earlier than normal. I do hope your son is making the most of the snow day and is combining fun time in the snow and continuing with his independent learning. We expect to be fully open as normal on Monday 13th March and the Year 11 Mock Exams that have been postponed yesterday and today will be completed on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Although our careers event was slightly interrupted yesterday due to the bad weather, a number of guests spoke to our students and provided the opportunity to answer insightful questions. Thank you to Ms Sandhu for coordinating this incredibly useful event. Here are a few pictures from the different activities.

Visiting Author - Friday 3rd March 2023

At the end of last week, Year 8 had a virtual author visit from Claire Fayers - the students were inspired through her workshop all about planning and writing fantasy stories. They shared ideas and plans and asked really insightful questions during the author Q&A.

Students will be writing up their stories for a chance to win one of our new signed copies of her book!

8.1 were absolutely wonderful and a Claire said they were a credit to the school.

What Parents and Carers Need to Know about iPads

It hasn’t quite made the sociocultural splash of the Mac or the iPhone, but Apple’s iPad has undeniably been a colossal critical and commercial success for the American tech giants. The device truly changed the game: before the iPad, comparatively few tablets existed – and they certainly weren’t adaptable enough to find a niche in the home as well as the workplace.

In the intervening 13 years, Apple’s sleek tablet has become a familiar sight in homes around the world – with children being wholehearted fans of having a portable, easy-to-use gateway to learning and entertainment on tap. Are iPads completely safe for young users, however? And if not, what do trusted adults need to be aware of? Click here to read a useful parent guide from the National Online Safety team.

Sport fixtures and training schedules for week beginning 13 March 2023

Weekly sports round-up from Mr Janes, Director of Sport

The weather heavily impacted our Sporting Provision this week with numerous fixtures having to be re-arranged. Training schedules had to be altered due to Year 11 exams taking place in the Sports Hall and our outdoor pitches being unplayable. It was great to see the students attend the Fitness Suite to participate in Strength and Conditioning training to support their sporting performance.

We have a big week next week in relation to fixtures. The Year 11 Football team have their Semi-Final on Wednesday at home to Coleshill. The Year 9 football team look to maintain their place at the top of their league as they travel to Shenley. The Year 9 and 10 Basketball teams are also in league action as they both look to maintain the top position in their respective leagues.

If you have any questions relating to the details above, please use the contact details below:
