This course is an intensive study of history which focuses on students’ abilities to connect issues over time. The Advanced Placement program is a college level course tailored to meet the needs of high school students. This is the first half of a two year course which culminates with an Advanced Placement Exam in May and the Global History Regents Exam in June. Both exams are given in a student’s sophomore year. Students are required to take a final exam in June of their freshman year, upon completion of AP World History I. Students have the ability to earn college credit dependent upon their score on the AP Exam and upon the university they will attend. Readings of primary and secondary sources are expected in conjunction with extensive writing samples. Students in an Advanced Placement course are highly motivated and consistently participate in and out of the classroom. This course is offered to selected students of proven academic ability in the field of social studies. Students taking this course must take the Advanced Placement examination in May (fee required). Colleges may grant credit to students performing successfully on this test. The syllabus for this course has been approved by the College Board's Advanced Placement audit.
