0218H Public Policy - Issues In Government/Princeton Model Congress (½ Credit - Honors) - Offered Fall Semester Only
Prerequisite: A Global History Regents Exam grade of 85 or better. A final grade of 85 or better in AP US History, 90 or better on the US History Regents Exam and a teacher recommendation. Offered Fall semester only. This course is also known as Princeton Model Congress.
This course will prepare students for participation in the Princeton Model Congress program. In the first half of the school year, students will research issues in government, learn debate structure, and engage in the creation of their own bill for legislation. Students are then required to take part in the hands-on experience of traveling to Washington DC for the Princeton Model Congress in midNovember. Attendance on this trip is mandatory for the issuance of credit in this course. Students will pay for their hotel and food costs while in Washington DC during this four day field trip. Students should only take this course if they are interested in engaging in meaningful debate, public speaking, and policy implementation. There is an emphasis placed on debate structure and public speaking as a basis of the political process.
