0232 AP Macroeconomics (1 Credit - Advanced Placement)
Prerequisites: A final grade of 85 or better in US History and the US History Regents Exam. Completion of a summer writing assignment. Students requesting this course must meet with the instructor in June. Extensive writing is expected in the course so that the student will be able to write document based essay questions, an integral part of the Advanced Placement exam.
This course provides students with a rich and rigorous course aimed at a learning experience equivalent to a typical college macroeconomics course. This course would culminate with a College Board Examination in Macroeconomics, with which students may earn the equivalent college credit for a semester long course at many colleges and universities. This class also explores public policy issues operating in government, politics, and various social sciences. This course is offered to students of proven academic ability in the field of social studies. Students taking this course must take the Advanced Placement examination in May (fee required). Colleges may grant credit to students performing successfully on this test. The syllabus for this course has been approved by the College Board's Advanced Placement audit. For an additional fee, students have the option to take this course for three college credits through the Suffolk County Community College’s Beacon program.
