0229 AP Psychology (1 Credit - Advanced Placement)
Prerequisites: A final grade of 85 or better in US History or AP US History, an 85 or better on the Regents Exam in the prerequisite courses. Completion of a summer assignment.
This is the course that tries to answer some of the most fascinating questions that we human beings face. It’s Longwood’s version of what most colleges call Psych 101. Approximately ninety percent of college students take this course because it meets the requirements of many fields of study. Also, because it tries to answer the question, “Why do people think, act, and feel the way we do?” At Longwood, the class features many interesting demonstrations, experiments, and fun cooperative activities. However, it is a very rigorous course. The demands are great and rewards are satisfying and applicable to real life. The expectation is that you have had success in previous social studies classes. What will really determine your success is: interest in the subject, having an open mind, and a willingness to complete independent tasks. Students taking this course must take the Advanced Placement examination in May (fee required). Colleges may grant credit to students performing successfully on this test. The syllabus for this course has been approved by the College Board's Advanced Placement audit.
