0233 AP U.S. History (1 Credit - Advanced Placement)

Prerequisites: A final grade of 90 or better in Global 10 or an 85 in AP World History II, 85 or better on the Global 10 Regents Exam, and completion of a summer writing assignment. Students requesting this course must meet with the instructor in June. Extensive writing is expected in the course so that the student will be able to write document based essay questions, an integral part of the AP exam.

This course is offered to selected students of proven academic ability in the field of Social Studies. This is a college level course in American History culminating with the Advanced Placement exam in May. Students who have attained success in this examination may receive college credit. This course will fulfill the one credit requirement for U.S. History & Government. Students must take the U.S. History Regents Exam in June. Students taking this course must take the Advanced Placement examination in May (fee required). Colleges may grant credit to students performing successfully on this test. The syllabus for this course has been approved by the College Board's Advanced Placement audit. For an additional fee, students have the option to take this course for three college credits through the Suffolk County Community College’s Beacon program.
