NARRATIVE REPORT
February 15, 2024 (Thursday) was the day we were first allowed to fully handle our Cooperating Teacher’s (CT) English class with Grade 7 Amber. Our focus for the day was to assist the class with their Catch Up Thursday activity, wherein they will be orally reading a story titled “Where’s the Patis?”. At exactly 3:00 PM we arrived at Grade 7 Amber’s classroom, the students were quite in a ruckus so we quickly made them settle down and made sure that all of them were inside the classroom within five (5) minutes. We started the class with a prayer, we checked the students’ attendance, and we reintroduced ourselves to the class to reacquaint with them. We distributed the reading handouts and grouped the students into four (4) for the icebreaker. Ms. Ma. Anne Toniette L. Nalzaro introduced and taught an ice breaker to the class called, “Ako’y gising, hindi tulog, nakikinig, Wow!”, this activity served as the class’ attention drill every time they were noisy or not paying attention. That is, whenever the teacher assistant rings the bell twice, each group will sing aloud the routine while performing the hand actions as well.
The reading of the material followed suit, we decided to divide the narrative with each one of us administering to 2-3 paragraphs. Each of us read aloud in front of the class for every paragraph and made the students read (orally) after, before proceeding to the next set of paragraphs, we made sure to take note of each mispronounced word, wrote them on the board, and made the students read them correctly with our assistance. We dismissed the class at exactly 4:00 PM and unfortunately, we were cut short and were not able to finish the whole narrative due to time constraints.
Yesterday, February 19, 2024 (Monday) we were given an opportunity by our CT to assist her in her class with Grade 7 Amber, the lesson for that day focused on the different forms of verbs. We led the prayer of the class and this time, Ms. Nicole Shyne Fiel introduced a new icebreaker to the students called, “Head, shoulders, knees, ballpen!”. They were teamed up in pairs and made to face each other, the activity consisted of four (4) rounds, and all the students had to do was touch what Ms. Fiel would name. The first one (from each pair) to touch the ballpen (when Ms. Fiel says it) wins the round.
After, the energizing activity, our CT proceeded to divide the class into groups and they were made to play a game related to the lesson. During the duration of the class activities, we maintained assistance in counting each group’s points and helping our CT reprimand noisy students and maintain order in class. The final activity included the checking of an assignment given to them (last week). Ms. Margaux Valila was assigned to let the students (individually) read their answers to the class, and everyone was made to orally spell the verbs they answered for each item. The other teacher assistants roamed around the room to check on students to make sure they could follow, while one wrote the correct answers on the board. Finally, before dismissal, we checked their attendance and recorded their scores in the assignment as well.
