NARRATIVE REPORT
The official deployment of 3rd-year BSED-English students for Field Study 2 as teacher assistants commenced on February 06, 2024, at Leyte National High School. Our group (3) comprising of Roberto Avila, Nicole Shyne D. Fiel, Ma. Anne Toniette L. Nalzaro, Nyle Kirshley A. Niog, and Margaux T. Valila were assigned to Grade 7 Amber every Monday and Thursday from 3:00 to 4:00 PM with our Cooperating Teacher (CT) Ma’am Dosil. We first met with our CT Mrs. Sherly N. Dosil few minutes before the scheduled time who warmly welcomed us. We were then briefly oriented about the students before proceeding to meet them in the classroom. When we reached the classroom, we introduced ourselves to the lively Grade 7 Amber students. The initial interaction allowed us to establish a connection with the students. Our CT then asked us to assist her with the Phil-IRI activity in the class, while we were doing this we also took the opportunity to observe the classroom structure of our CT.
We observed that the dimensions of the room were enough to accommodate an estimate of thirty (30) students, there is one single door for entrance and exit, and there are a total number of four (4) jalousie windows. The classroom had one sizable black board but we observed that it lacked proper care and maintenance. There was no television inside, the room has one teacher’s table in front and one at the back as well. Even if the room was not quite large, there is enough ventilation, we counted a number of five (5) ceiling and standing fans in total. The room fortunately is well lit and distracting objects were removed. The Grade 7 Amber are not our CT’s advisory class, so for the creation of a bulletin board and virtual classroom lay out, we resorted to the Garde 7 Aquamarine class as our basis since they are our CT’s advisory class.
Ma’am Docil plans to place a bulletin board in her advisory class’ classroom, although the date of the installation is still indefinite, she already shared with us the planned content of the board. That is: the school’s mission and vision, core values, announcements, students’ ranking, and a picture of the Philippine’s President and Vice President. For the classroom layout, we also sought for our CT’s expertise in classroom structuring. She specified that a classroom must consist of forty (40) chairs, two (2) fluorescent lights, three (3) wall fans, and (2) stand fans. Ideally, the classroom must have four (4) windows and two (2) doors, one for entrance and exit, and one set of table and chair in front for the teacher.
Since classes now have resumed to the traditional face-to-face mode, virtual classrooms are not used as often. Still, we have crafted an ideal virtual classroom layout that is conducive to learning. The setup for the virtual classroom requires only minimal equipments, that is a working laptop and headphones/mic, downloaded applications of Google Meet and Google Classroom for virtual meetings, as well as Messenger and Google Mail for communication.
