The Los Nietos School District (LNSD) understands that schools provide a prime opportunity for students to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to live active, healthy lives. Over the years, Physical Fitness test results have been used to reveal 5th and 7th grade students’ performance on six physical fitness attributes. In an effort to increase the performance in these tests, LNSD is implementing a collaborative approach with regard to physical education and nutrition services. The two LNSD service areas are currently using an online data tool (School Health Index) to identify what the LNSD school sites are doing to promote health. The Director of Nutrition Services, School Nurse, and Health Educator Consultant are working together with the teachers, staff, and administrators to identify areas of improvement and monitor progress that will help all grade level students stay healthy and succeed in school.
