ELPAC

The ELPAC is the test that is used to measure how well students in kindergarten through twelfth grade understand English when it is not their primary language. The ELPAC is taking in place of the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). Information from the ELPAC helps your child's teacher provide support in the right areas.

ELPAC is comprised of two assessments:

  • Initial ELPAC - an initial identification of students as English Learners

  • Summative ELPAC - an annual summative to measure a student's progress in learning English and to identify the student's level of English language proficiency.

Administration

Initial ELPAC will take place between August 14th - May 30th

Summative ELPAC will take place between March 4th - May 17th


Grades Assessed: TK - 8

The ELPAC tests four different areas:

  • Listening

  • Speaking

  • Reading

  • Writing

Kindergarten

Grades 3-5

Grades 6-8

Exemptions:

Parents/Guardians are not able to exempt from ELPAC testing. ELPAC is a state assessment, required by federal law.

    • CELDT - Final administration for initial assessment only July 2017 - June 2018

    • ELPAC - Initial Assessment Field Test (selected schools) - Fall 2017

    • ELPAC - First Operational Summative Assessment - Spring 2018


  • 2018-2019 School Year

    • ELPAC - First Operational Initial Assessment - Fall 2018
