The road was mapped out by Zhang Qian and was used to trade items like silk, pots, spices and salt.

The silk road was founded and expanded by the Han Dynasty, highlighting the importance of the Han on history.

source 3 - a statue of a laughing buddha from the yuan dynasty.

Buddha is the central figure of the religion called Buddhism. Buddhism originated in India. The religion of Buddhism spread to China because of the Silk Road. The laughing Buddha is a Chinese take on the traditional Buddha, it is believed that if you rub his belly you will get good luck. Click on the statue of the laughing Buddha to see what the traditional Buddha looks like.
