About this class

In Art you will have an opportunity to explore different art -making processes.  You will get to complete group art projects as well as working individually. We will look at ways to exhibit and share our artwork with others.  You will use some/ all of paint, photo, sculpture and printmaking to explore your ideas.

What it leads into in Year 10

In year 10 we offer visual arts and also Photography.   Visual Arts /Photography in year 10 extends the art-making from year 9, but also introduces new things such as the dark-room for photography.

Visual Arts is a good subject that supports pathways such as DVC, Fabrics and hard-materials and bussiness. 

What it leads into as a career

Visual Arts and or Photography is an area where you can get a career within the creative industries eg: graphic designer, product designer, artist, costume designer etc or the skills and understandings can support other areas for example forensic science, marketing, engineering or architecture.

About this class

Within this course you will start to develop your own ideas using artist models. You will have the opportunity to work on a collaborative art project, as well as extending your own art making skills in a range of media.  you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively and independantly.  Exploring ways to exhibit and share your work with others in the community. 

You could have the opportunity to achieve some level 1 NCEA assessments.

What it leads into as a career

Making artwork is a great skill to have. Within a career context, Artist, radiographer, architect, doctor, lawyer, curator, police, forensics, designer, marketing, or if you are running your own business and need to make advertising materials.  Or just for pleasure. Often if you are wanting to be a surgeon, the trainers get you to do an art course to help you with dextiery when operating.
