No. One of the most important things to me about a program like this is that ANY student can choose to do it and no one has to prove their worth in order to be part of it. If a student wants to be a part of the program, they just fill in the online Google Form and the people from BSS will be in touch! If you fill in the Google Form and you don't hear from us within two business days, please email Mr. Jon Swaine at swainejw@limestone.on.ca.
Not at all. This program is meant to immerse students in computer science while taking their normal course load. So, students don't get to just take computer science all of the time without taking English or math or science ... that would be insane! Students come to Bayridge, pick their courses like normal (although as part of the program requirements they MUST pick computer science in each grade), and they go to school in the same fashion as their peers who may not be in the program. The difference is that students who are part of the BCSP have out-of-class, computer-related obligations that they must fulfil - those are listed here.
Yes. Students who participate in the BCSP MUST take all of the computer courses available at Bayridge. This includes TEJ1O (grade 9), ICS2O (grade 10), ICS3C/U (grade 11), and ICS4C/U/AP (grade 12). There are other things that students MUST do at each grade level - more information about that can be found here.
In this case, please contact Mr. Swaine at swainejw@limestone.on.ca and/or the friendly folks in student services (Ms. Kapuschat or Ms. Sharpe) and we'll try to get it all sorted out!
Absolutely!!! There is Live Streaming, Cybersecurity Club you can work on your very own website... the list goes on. No student HAS TO participate in these clubs, but the more computer science related things they do while in the program, the better their "resume" of computer experiences looks upon graduation. That is the time when Mr. Swaine has to decide if a student will graduate with a Gold, Silver, or Bronze certification. The more stuff done, the higher the level.
