One of the most important responsibilities of a BCSP student is maintaining their BCSP Portfolio and Certification Tracker. Throughout high school, students participate in courses, competitions, projects, workshops, certifications, outreach activities, and many other enrichment opportunities. By recording these experiences as they happen, students create a detailed record of their accomplishments and make it much easier to demonstrate their involvement in the program.

The tracking sheet serves three important purposes. First, it helps students monitor their progress toward completing the mandatory requirements of the BCSP. Second, it allows students to track their BCSP Certification Points, which determine whether they earn a Bronze, Silver, or Gold BCSP Certificate upon graduation. Finally, it provides valuable evidence that can be used by Student Services when helping students complete requirements for the ICT Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM).

Mandatory Components

This sheet outlines the activities and requirements that every BCSP student must complete from Grades 9 through 12. As students complete requirements, they can update the sheet and monitor their progress toward graduation.

BCSP Certification Point System

This sheet explains how points are awarded for activities such as competitions, certifications, projects, leadership opportunities, workshops, outreach experiences, and much more. Students can use this page to plan how they will work toward Bronze, Silver, or Gold certification.

My BCSP Portfolio

This is where students record the activities they participate in throughout high school. Whether it is writing the Canadian Computing Competition, attending a cybersecurity workshop, completing a certification, building a personal programming project, participating in a hackathon, or helping run an elementary school coding event, it belongs in the portfolio!

Remember: it is much easier to record an activity when it happens than it is to try to remember everything four years later. Students who keep their portfolio up to date will have a much easier time documenting their achievements for scholarships, post-secondary applications, resumes, co-op placements, and BCSP certification.

• Make a copy of the BCSP Tracking Sheet for yourself.

• Share the spreadsheet with Mr. Swaine.

• Begin recording your activities as soon as you join the BCSP.

• Update your portfolio regularly throughout high school.

• Keep an eye on your certification points and work toward Bronze, Silver, or Gold status!

By the time you graduate, your BCSP Portfolio will tell the story of four years of learning, creating, competing, and leading in the world of computer science and technology.
