Mario Stroppa was born on April 4th, 1913 - Imperia, via Campo Marte 19, Porto Maurizio.
His father Giuseppe Stroppa was a milkman by profession, his mother Ernesta Ramoino, a housewife. He had a sister and a brother - Maria (1914 - 2006) and Angelo (1907 - 1997) married to Filomena Montaldo, who had a son, Carlo Stroppa (1947), who is still alive.
Natale Mario Stroppa enlisted in the army with the rank of sergeant in the 4th Rgt Alpina Artillery until he was deported to the Hunswinkel labour camp, 40 km east of the city of Wuppertal.
He died in Lüdenscheid suffering exhaustion and a breakdown on 10/02/1945, 3 months before the capitulation of Nazi Germany and the surrender to the Allies.
He is buried in the Italian Military Cemetery of Honour in Frankfurt am Main.
His memory is now commemorated on a "special cobblestone" in via Cesare Battisti 27, Imperia.
