Description:

The position holder will working under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator to implement the project interventions related to coordination, practice, capacity building on Technical (Livestock, Veterinary) Aspects. According to the project need the Livestock Officer will work closely with the partner partner Communities Organizations, Farmer Field schools and the line departments for facilitation of project actions. This is senior and independent position, which prefers candidates with skills of relations building, strategic planning, and design and support field staff in implementation of field activities.

Major Responsibilities:

· Overall technical support for livestock related activities, capacity building and training delivery for target communities

· Liaise with relevant stakeholders and Government authorities (Livestock Department and others)

· Identify the suitable institute for the training of Community Livestock Extension Workers (CLEWs)

· Provide specialized technical assistance in the implementation of the project activities and monitoring of vaccination

· Arrange the training on management of livestock during drought

· Ensure the vaccinations and deworming to improve the health of livestock, increase their lifespan and strengthen their resistance to predominant diseases

· Provide technical support in response to the priority needs of targeted beneficiaries

· Collect and collate information on livestock conditions in the project areas

· Capacity building and awareness raising of community organizations on livestock health and management

· Diagnosis, survey and reporting of diseases in the targeted areas

· Guide response / action in case of diseases and ensure the timely administration of vaccines with support of line departments

· Monitor the selection of project beneficiaries by Service Providers focusing on the most vulnerable families

· Assist in the preparation of project reports, case studies, and success stories

· Preparation of Periodic Reports and Implementation Plan

· Undertake additional duties commensurate with the post as may reasonably be requested from time to time

Qualifications and Experience:

At least DVM or related degree with at least three years (practical experience in livestock sector, including the implementation of livestock related activities or projects in drought affected areas)

Skills and knowledge required:

· Hands on experience on current livestock management practices

· Good understanding of CCA and DRR

· Sound knowledge of issues of smallholder farmers and livestock/agricultural situation of coastal belt of Badin

· Knowledge of relevant local/national policies, laws and international frameworks and standards

· Computer Skills, Ms. Office, Internet

· Excellent Reporting Skills

· Excellent Coordination and Correspondence Skills

The position holder will primarily work with the Project Manager, Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, Agriculture Officer and Social Mobilizers. S/he will secondarily work with the consultation of Logistic, Procurements, Admin and Finance Staff, where and when required and will follow the organization’s functional chart/organogram.

External Contacts

The position needs to be in close coordination of partner communities at field level and other stakeholder including livestock department and civil society forums/organizations.
