YEAR 5

In English, the children have been working hard towards writing their own versions of a modern myth to entertain their readers. We began by story boarding our ideas,  sketching our characters, using an AI tool to create our setting and writing setting and character descriptions before drafting our whole narrative.

In Maths we have come to the end of multiplication and division and finish the term reading timetables and line graphs.

In Science we have been completing our unit on Materials by looking at reversible and irreversible changes and the history of the creation of new materials and the impact on our climate of these.  Everyone enjoyed making instant ice cream, blowing up a balloon using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda and creating a bouncing egg.

We rounded off the unit by taking part in a Now Press Play where the children became aliens from another planet which had been destroyed by a meteorite and they were travelling to Earth to collect samples of solids, liquids and gases to clone to create their own new planet.

There have also been some really interesting experiments being tried at home for those children who have taken the Science bag - fantastic efforts by all who have had the opportunity to take it so far.  Don’t worry if you haven’t taken it yet there are plenty more weeks ahead.

Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed the Arts appreciation afternoon and were able to include in their display their DT designs for their Greek gingerbread biscuits which they have finished making and were able to taste this week.

In Geography we have travelled to modern Greece and presented our learning and research in a persuasive slides presentation to be shared in class.

We are sure you are as proud of the year group as we are for their fantastic performances during the junior Christmas concerts. We think also an extra special well done is deserved to Harry, Jude, Lottie, Addison and Darcey who were members of the group who went to G Live to perform their song from Oliver.

Everyone enjoyed the athletic finish to the term with the reindeer run this morning with a dash of Christmas spirit in the varied Christmas jumpers being worn.

The Year 5 team wish all of the Redwings, Wrens and their families a very Happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing them back in 2024!
