New Parents' Meeting- Monday 12th July 2021
We would like to invite you all to our New Reception Parents' meeting which will be hosted remotely. This meeting aims to tell you a little bit about the school, the structures of the day, and the Early Years curriculum. It will also provide an opportunity for you to be able to ask questions.
Please email the school office on : info@shawley.surrey.sch.uk to register your attendance. You will then be sent a link to join the meeting.
Meet the teacher - Thursday 15th July - 2-2.30pm
Unfortunately due to the COVID restrictions, we are unable to invite you and your child in this term to meet the teacher.
However, on Thursday 15th July at 2pm we will be hosting a virtual 'Meet the Teacher' session for your children. Their new teacher Mrs Morina will introduce herself, share some photos of the classroom, share a story and introduce our home learning project for the summer.
If you are able to attend, please let the school office know and we will share the link with you.
We look forward to seeing you all there.
Summer Home Learning Project
September 2021 Transition
Below you will find the transition timetable for your child starting in September. We are keen to get all of the children in as quickly as possible whilst also supporting them to settle well in the new environment.
Stay and Play Sessions - Friday 3rd September 2021
On Friday 3rd September, the children will be invited to come along with you to a stay and play session. This would normally be done in the summer term but due to the restrictions, we have had to move it to September. These sessions will take place in small groups to help the staff begin to get to know you all. You will be expected to stay with your child at this time and help them familiarise themselves with the setting.
This helps to give children confidence as they can meet their Class Teacher and learning support assistant as well as some of the children who will be in their class.
Parent and Child at School Meetings - Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th September 2021
These meetings will replace our usual Home Visits. This will be a more personal visit for you to meet Mrs Morina and Mrs Snelling and for them to get to know you and your child.
They will take place on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th September 2021 in the mornings.
The visit will last for approximately 15 minutes and we will be able to answer any questions you may have about your child’s start to school life.
You will have been sent your own time slot in your welcome email.
Other useful Information
Reading and Phonics Workshops
These are arranged during the Autumn term to inform parents about the way in which we teach these subjects at Shawley and also discuss with parents some of the ways in which they can help with their child's education at home. At Shawley, we believe that the education of your child is a partnership between home and school and we seek to involve parents actively in their child's education.
Milk
Children are able to have a small carton of milk to drink mid morning. Parents who wish their child to have milk should complete an order form and return it to the Freepost address on the bottom of the form, or apply online at www.coolmilk.com. Milk is free for children who are under five years of age, and also for children whose parents are in receipt of certain support payments. An invoice will be sent to you once milk has been ordered. All enquiries should be made directly to “Cool Milk at School” at www.coolmilk.com or on 0800 142 2972, School Code 6784. Milk needs to be re-ordered by parents each term for every child who is having milk, even if it is free.
See attached here a leaflet about the milk scheme.
Water
Each child should bring their own labelled water bottle to school to drink throughout the day. If a child forgets their water bottle they will have access to the water fountain throughout the day. Water bottles should only contain water and not squash or fruit juice.
Fruit
Fruit is provided by the school but children can bring fruit from home if they prefer in a named pot.
Bringing toys from home
We are happy for children to bring particular items of interest to school when relevant, but discourage the bringing of ordinary toys from home. The class teacher will sometimes ask for specific items that relate to the topic to be brought to school. Please remember to label these with your child's name as far as possible to prevent any difficulties.
Birthdays
We always acknowledge children's birthdays. If your religion or preference is for your child's birthday not to be celebrated, please let the class teacher know.
In line with encouraging children to eat healthily, we do discourage children from bringing sweets/cakes to school to celebrate their birthdays.
Cooking Fund
We ask for a voluntary contribution of £6 per year to contribute to ongoing cooking activities throughout the year.
