How can I help prepare my child for starting school?

When a child starts Reception we are fully aware of the support that children will need from us. It would really help your child if you could work on some of the following things to help your child to become increasingly more independent: -

recognise their name

ask for help when necessary

use lower case not capital letters when writing 'a b c' rather than 'A B C'

dress and undress themselves for PE

fasten their own shoes

put on and do up their own coats

go to the toilet unaided and wash their hands afterwards

eat their dinner with a knife and fork without help
