Year 4 have been finishing our Anglo-Saxon topic with two amazing exit activities. The first was was our Beowulf and the Anglo-Saxons workshop. We met the wife of a Saxon churl (farmer) who lead us through various activities that were an important part of Anglo-Saxon life, e.g. building a house, jobs around the village, harvesting and gathering food and goods to pay taxes to the king and casting runes to tell the future. We then acted out the famous Anglo-Saxon story of Beowulf. We remembered so much about the Anglo-Saxons during our workshop and were able to recall these facts in detail days later. Our second exit activity was to use the Now Press Play headphones to follow a Viking Adventure together . We acted out the story and found out how difficult life was for the Vikings when they arrived in Britain.
In writing we have been developing a comic strip to tell part of the story of The Sword of the Viking King. We thought carefully about how to use captions, speech bubbles, onomatopoeia and adverbials of time, place and manner to make our comic strip amazing. In Maths we have been focusing on Geometry and have identified and compared angles, types of triangle and quadrilaterals and identified lines of symmetry. We then used our knowledge to group our shapes according to different features. In Science, we have been planning and completing an experiment to see which liquids are bad for our teeth. We used water, apple juice, orange juice, full sugar cola and sugar free lemonade to see the effects they would have on chewing gum pellets to see which liquids could be harmful to our teeth.
We are encouraging the children to practice their times tables over the holidays and use TT rock stars soundcheck to help them prepare for the Summer Term.
Year 4 would like to wish you all a lovely Easter holiday .
