Year 5 is doing some exciting and fascinating learning in class.
To start, they have become increasingly confident with their understanding of geometry and have now moved onto building their knowledge of the area and perimeter of shapes- we are exceptionally proud of the amazing effort they have been putting in.
In writing, the children are continuing to explore the world of the Amazon Rain forest through our story 'The Explorer'. They have written informal letters as one of the main characters, detailing the predicaments the characters Fred, Con, Lila and Max are experiencing when the plane crash landed- the children have been introduced to piranhas and electric eels already- who knew there would be so many threatening species in the Amazon Jungle? There was also an opportunity to create a double page spread fact file about an animal that calls the Amazon rain forest its home so we've had anacondas, sloths, jaguars, different species of ants plus many more.
In Humanities, the children are continuing their learning of South America by comparing it's terrain and economics to Africa and UK. We discussed how they compare and of there were many similarities or differences.
In Science, we explored the developmental stages of babies. The children found this fascinating especially those in the class who have a baby sibling. It was lovely to hear some stories to compliment our lessons. Thank you also for the baby photos- the children enjoyed looking at photos of themselves when they were babies.
This week gave us many opportunities to learn outdoors in celebration of 'Outdoor Learning Day'.
Finally, last week some of the Year 5 children went on a trip to Oxford University and were taken on a fantastic tour. These children took part in the scholars programme and graduated in this world famous location. Well done!!
