Year 3 have had two busy weeks of learning. In Maths we learned about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes and we used 3D nets to create different shapes. It was really interesting to see how the 3D shapes looked before they were made with the nets and we could clearly see how many faces, edges and vertices they had. We have also learned about the perimeter of shapes and we have been able to compare the length of the perimeter in different irregular shapes, using different units of measure.
In English we have continued to explore the Shakespeare's play 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. We have acted out our favourite scenes and some of us have changed our minds about the characters after reading the whole story. We have learned to write a play script between two characters and we have read it out to our peers. It was a lot of fun!
In Science we have investigated what happens to plants in different conditions. We positioned our plants next to the window, in the cupboard or away from direct light, with water and without water and we also put one plant in a jar without air or water. The results have been interesting and we have recorded the changes after a week.
In Topic we continue to increase our knowledge of the Tudors. We learned about Henry VIII's wives and what happened to them. and we rehearsed the verse 'Divorce, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived'. We enjoyed a Nearpod lesson to learn about the different Tudor homes. It was amazing to know that the houses were different depending on the wealth of the Tudors and the way they were made also depended on what they could afford. Did you know that poor people couldn't afford to have glass in their windows and they sometimes used paper instead? Next week Opal class will have their assembly to showcase what they have learned so far about the Tudors. We can't wait to learn more about the this fascinating era in the coming weeks!
We enjoyed learning outdoors in the perfect weather on Thursday 19th. We planted bee-bombs in the grassed area and we did some observational drawings of nature around us. It was such a fun day!
