Year 5 have been focusing on lots of different areas of the curriculum over the last couple of weeks. In English, the children have been working towards writing their own newspaper report on one of the main characters going missing on the London Eye. The children have enjoyed writing in role as a journalist and reporting on the incident. In maths, we have tackled rounding which the children now feel more confident with. This week we started adding and subtracting and thinking of as many methods as we can we help us add numbers. In art this week, the children have continued with their typography and maps focus. This week they drew objects over the top of maps with the focus to make the drawing visually stronger. In science, the children have been learning about air resistance and will test their knowledge with an experiment next week.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - We will be continuing with our work on addition and subtraction.
Writing - We will be working towards writing a setting description on the area surrounding the London Eye.
Reading - In Reading we will be moving onto focusing on summarising and retrieval style questions. The children will be looking at the text they have read and will summarise different parts of the text as well as retrieving answers straight from the text.
History - We will be looking at one dynasty in particular, the Shang Dynasty, and the social hierarchy there was based on their jobs.
Science - In science we will be looking at the effects of air resistance and investigating how different surfaces areas will effect how fast/slow something falls.
