Year 6 have had another fun-packed couple of weeks. In English, we began our new class text, Letters From The Lighthouse. We have been looking at ways of using action and description to make dialogue more exciting, in preparation for writing a narrative next week. In maths, we learnt about converting measurements and this week, we began percentages. In science, we enjoyed a "Light Day" where we learnt about how light travels, reflections, refraction and shadows . In art, we studied some artists (Yinka Shonibare, Njideka Crosby and Thandiwe Muriu )who use their culture, race and experiences to create their art and we made visual notes.
Our highlight this week was going to the Imperial War Museum for history, as we are learning about World War 2. The classes that went had a fantastic day, attending a workshop with two people (Jess and Louis) who lived through WW2 and shared their experiences. We also got to walk around the museum, taking in the sights of actual aeroplanes, boats and tanks from the war, as well as finding out how and why WW2 happened through many exciting and interactive displays.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - percentages
Writing - Writing a narrative from Letters From The Lighthouse
Reading - we will be looking at inference questions
History - World War 2 - The Battle Of Britain
Science - Living Things - Cold-blooded vertebrates
