This week has been a whirlwind of discovery in Year 5! In DT, our classrooms have been transformed into bustling workshops as we've constructed sleek, speedy moon buggies. Meanwhile, over in history, we've time-travelled back to Ancient Greece to unlock the secrets of their incredible civilization. We're curious to explore their innovative ideas, from democracy to the Olympics, and discover how their influence is still felt today. Science has also taken us on a fascinating journey, unravelling the mysteries of mixtures. In English, we've dived into the pages of "The Last Bear," crafting vivid descriptions of the book's wild and wintry setting. We're using all our senses to imagine the frosted landscapes and howling winds, ready to bring this story to life. And last but not least, maths has been a playground of numbers! We've been wrestling with proper, improper, and mixed fractions, learning to compare and order fractions, how to find equivalent fractions and converted mixed to improper fractions. In PE the children have begun gymnastics and are gearing up for a term of tumbling triumphs! They'll be mastering moves on the floor, exploring hand apparatus like hoops and on low apparatus through focused skill development, sequence creation and games. It's been a week of brainstorming, building, and bending our brains, and we can't wait to see what adventures the next two weeks brings!
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - We will be continuing with our fractions topic and learning how to add and subtract fractions.
Writing - We will be continuing to read our class text 'The Last Bear' and write a non-chronological report based on Narwhals.
Reading - In Reading we will be focusing on a mixture of retrieval, inference and prediction.
History - We will be looking at how Greece was governed.
Science - We will be continuing to investigate what makes a mixture.
Art - We will be continuing to look at art created by two artists, Vanessa Gardiner and the Shoreditch Sketcher.
