In English over the last two weeks Year 1 have enjoyed reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We have written a setting description of the beanstalk and the view from the top of it, using exclamation marks and adjectives to add detail. In maths we have been continuing subtracting with in 10. We have also explored the link between addition and subtraction and created fack families. In science we have begun our new unit of work 'Everyday Materials'. The children have named materials and sorted objects by what they are made of. We have also started thinking about the properties of materials. In geography we have been exploring aerial photographs to locate geographical features and have begun to develop our mapping skills by making 'messy maps' of our classrooms. We used objects to represent where the tables, chairs, book area etc are on an outline of the classroom. Last week we enjoyed a team building workshop run by the Sutton Schools Partnership. The children worked together in teams to complete fun tasks and play games.
