Reception Class has been a hive of activity over the past couple of weeks! Last week, the children were captivated by the "Supertato" stories and even had a visit from the mischievous evil pea! The pea caused quite a stir, disappearing without a trace and prompting a classroom-wide detective investigation. The children honed their observation skills, searching for clues and creating "Wanted" posters to aid in the hunt. Amidst the excitement, they also focused on their literacy skills, practicing starting sentences with capital letters, using finger spaces, and ending with full stops. Maths lessons were filled with fun, interactive games designed to develop their understanding of positional language.
This week marked the culmination of their superhero topic with the final book, "Superkid." Inspired by the story, the children designed their own superhero teddies, complete with unique superpowers. They then showcased their writing skills by creating sentences to describe their teddy's special abilities. In maths, they revisited and practiced various addition methods, including using objects, jottings, and rekenreks. They also wrapped up their PSED topic by sharing their hopes and dreams for the future. Becoming history detectives for a day, the children explored a collection of photos, discussing whether they were from the past or present. It's been a fantastic half term, and we are excited to embark on a new adventure exploring "creatures" after the break!
