Over the past few weeks, the children have really enjoyed learning all about prehistory and the true extent of the timeline during this period of history. They have learnt about Skara Brae and the development from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age and into the Iron Age. They have also been learning about vertebrates and invertebrates and how the human skeleton is arranged. They also created working models of the human hand so that they could investigate how muscles and tendons are used to move the skeleton. In maths, they have recapped and developed their understanding of place value and we have started to learn all about column addition of hundreds tens, and ones. By investigating the text "The Stone Age Boy" they have been learning how to use the senses to develop their setting description in writing using expanded noun phrases and the use of past tense. We are looking forward to continuing to develop our understanding of writing using this text.
The children continue to read every night and sign their reading records. They are practicing their Times Table Rock Stars to achieve their 144 By using Century the children are also accessing the maths, reading, writing, and science nuggets to advance their understanding.
Can all the children in Anning and Newton please remember to bring in spare shoes for forest school on Wednesdays?
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - the children will continue to develop their understanding of the column method by renaming tens and hundreds.
Writing - We will be reading the book "Stone Age Boy" and using it to create setting descriptions and diary entries.
History - We will investigate how bronze influenced prehistoric Britain and how trade affected the Iron Age.
Science - Science investigation will be at the forefront of our learning as we look at Muscles and Movement, and Eating for Survival.
