This week we have been learning:
Maths - how to use column addition to add two 2-digit numbers together with renaming (crossing over the 10's). The children have worked really hard at this and have done very well. If you have a chance to practice this at home, it would help consolidate the children's learning and help them transfer this knowledge from their short term memory to their long term memory. Please also make sure you are completing your Numbots home learning each week. This will help the children so much with their mental maths! We would like children in year 2 to be completing 30 minutes of Numbots each week. This could be in one go or spread across several days. The children's usernames and passwords are stuck in the front cover of their reading diary.
Writing - we are learning about conjunctions and questions whilst learning the story, "The Day the Crayons Quit".
History - we have investigated what objects you might find in a classroom from 100 years ago compared to what you might find now.
Science - we have looked at woodland habitats and thought about what kind of creatures you might find there.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - we will be doing some simple subtraction and then learning column subtraction 1 and 2 digit numbers from a 2 digit number.
Writing - we will be planning, writing and then editing a letter based on the book, The Day the Crayons Quit.
History - we will be looking at the similarities and differences between schools in the early 1900's, the 1960's and the modern day.
Science - we will be looking at the habitats in the rainforest and in the ocean and thinking about what creatures live there.
