Year 5 have enjoyed another fun-filled couple of weeks. Our budding filmmakers have been hard at work in English, creating thrilling trailers for Katherine Rundell's "The Explorer." We've seen some fantastic story boarding, dramatic acting, and clever editing. It's been amazing to watch the children bring the Amazon rainforest to life! Last week, The children were lucky enough to have a science workshop. Our young scientists embarked on a fascinating journey into the world of animal classification. It was a roaring success, with children learning about vertebrates and invertebrates, and how to group animals based on their characteristics. In Maths, we've been tackling the tricky world of decimals. The children have been working hard to understand place value, comparing decimals, and even adding and subtracting them! We've used lots of visual aids and practical activities to make learning about decimals engaging and accessible. Finally, our budding engineers have been busy in DT, designing and creating their own pop-up books using levers. It's been wonderful to see their creativity and problem-solving skills in action as they experiment with different mechanisms to make their characters jump and move. We've learned about the power of levers and how they can be used to create amazing effects.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - Percentages
Writing - The Explorer - Double page showcase
Geography - Why Oceans Matter - Why do oceans matter? Disciplinary writing
Science - Life Cycles And Reproduction - Life cycles of amphibians and insects.
